I had a friend who wanted a copper and wood wedding ring. I advised against wood because it would not be durable. I asked him, "why are you so hung up on wood and copper"? Well duh, I should have known it was because his business involved copper and wood barrels in which he distilled whiskey!
I set about trying to create a ring that would meet his ideas but also offer durability. I imprinted a wood grain pattern on copper and lined both the sides and back with sterling silver to avoid the copper touching his skin and discoloring it.
Next, I rounded the ring.
As you can see, the ring is still looking pretty rough. The width of the ring needed to be substantially reduced to meet the specifications of the future owner, so I sanded the sides down to a more comfortable width.
You can also see that the silver and copper are now polished. The future owner wanted a very rustic look so I oxidized the silver which makes it turn black.
The last step in the process to "fancy it up" was to flush mount some very small diamonds in the band. And the end result looked like this; a rustic men's "wood" and copper wedding band!
